Eat Pray Doula

Well, here I am. Back in Australia and already missing the sweet, hugging, humid warmth that is Bali and my Eat Pray Doula sisters...

In March 2016, my baby daughter (Lilly) and I spent two beautiful weeks on the lush island of Bali in Indonesia..

The first week was a blur of activity as the city of Ubud prepared for the holiday 'Nyepi', the traditional new year. The eve of Nyepi the entire island of Bali explodes in noise and fun as street parades are held with entire villages running the streets holding giant decorated monster figures 20 feet high, in an effort to scare away any bad spirits who may be lurking close by.... The day of Nyepi the entire island goes silent... No cars, no shops, no cooking,no lights, no TV,  no school, no work... Each family stays in their compound (home) as the bad spirits are tricked that no one lives in Bali to possess or hurt...

The second week of our time in Bali was a lush, spiritual journey, meeting Doula sisters from all over the world... Scotland, England, Phillipines, Australia, Korea, USA, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Canada...
We came together to share the secrets and skills that is the ancient art of Birth Keeping...

Together we held each other as we practised comfort measures to use in labour, the importance of breastfeeding, discovered hidden gems within ourselves, created birth art, hugged, ate, laughed and loved as one big family...

Although I will continue to try and write a blog which truly captures the spirit of my time away, for now I will leave you with a gallery of photos from Eat Pray Doula 2016...

As they say.. A picture is worth a thousand words....

Enjoy xxx
